How to invite Jesus to heal your painful memories

“I’ve been dealing with these memories. They just keep popping up,” says Sarah.

“I try my best to forget them but they never seem to go away.”

“How does it make you feel?” asks Christine.

“Mad, makes me want to get back at them for what they did to me.”

Sarah has unresolved issues from her past and has allowed strongholds of unforgiveness to be built up over the years.

As a result, she struggles with painful memories that continue to haunt her.

“Let’s pray over these,” says Christine.

First, they met at a place that’s quiet, with no distractions.

Then they spent a few minutes waiting and praying.

“We pray for Your presence to be here and to guide us. We invite Jesus to be with Sarah as we pray over her past wounds,” Christine prays.

“Sarah, imagine yourself as a child during the time when you were hurt by your friends at school,” says Christine. “What do see or feel as I was praying for you?”

“I could sense that Jesus was there with me. He reaches out to help me as I was crying on the ground.”

During this prayer session, Sarah was able to sense Jesus presence with her even in her memories.

“Let’s pray over your memories by forgiving those who have hurt you,” says Christine.

“I forgive those who have wounded me as a child. I forgive Nate and Susan for bullying and hitting me when I was six.

I bless them and their family. I release them from any judgment that I’ve held against them.” Sarah prays.

“We also pray over strongholds of bitterness and resentment that have built up in Sarah. We break them in the name of Jesus and we ask for Your grace to flow through her life.

We ask for Your Spirit to replace the painful memories. Let there be joy instead of pain. Amen.” Christine prays.
