What goes into your mind goes into your life

Our minds are filled with too much negativity. From social media to people around us, we’re constantly bombarded with bad news.

If we pay close attention to what people say around us, we’d be surprised how much of it is negative.

Negativity sells because it appeals to our fears and worries. That’s why social media, news and movies have that element of negativity to draw people’s attention.

People are drawn to news of devastation, crime, violence, scandal, and fights instead of positive news about people helping people.

Our fears and worries trigger that part of us that makes us want to wake up and do something to protect ourselves. They also cause us to become more anxious. Left unchecked, we can end up with anxiety attacks and breakdowns if we keep allowing negativity to flow freely into our minds.

Once you cut off these sources of negativity, you’ll begin to see a transformation in the way you think and live life. Your physical and mental health will improve when you control what you allow to go into your mind.

We need to transform our minds by filling them with only positive things. That means filtering out most of what we hear and see daily around us, from the news to the words people use around us.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” – Philippians 4:8

It does not mean sheltering our lives from the real world. We just need to recognize that a lot of news out there don’t necessarily reflect the real world either.

There are a lot more stories of struggles that will never make the news simply because they don’t sell.  Real struggles that ordinary people go through won’t sell, but when a celebrity has a temper tantrum, it will attract attention worldwide.

I grew up surrounded by a lot of negative thinking. Most of it has to do with seeing life from a spirit of lack.

My favorite sport was soccer, and I dreamt of becoming a pro soccer player, but even at a young age, my goal was to just play at the lowest division someday.

That’s because I was surrounded by the belief that life has many limitations and we can only go so far, so we might as well settle for less. I was already defeated in my mind before I even got started.

Negative thinking also prevented me from believing and living a life of faith.  I did not believe that God has gifted me or given me a calling for a higher purpose.

My breakthrough came when I began to surround myself with people who believe in what God can do through them and what they can do as God’s creation.

It’s not about having positive thinking but having faith in God’s power and believing that He can do miracles when we live and walk in faith by obeying Him.

As I spent more time with them, their lives influenced how I think and believe. When they spoke prophetically into my heart, I started to change from someone who don’t have anything to contribute to helping others with my gifts.

Prayer –

“I pray over my mind and what You’ve given me. I pray that You will remove the negativity and junk that I’ve allowed into my life over the years.

I pray over self-defeating thoughts that have taken hold within me. I ask for Your living Word to dwell within me and change me.  I take full authority over my mind, and I ask for Your Spirit to dwell there.”

If we are to find healing for our minds, we need to allow God’s living word to heal us and take over the space in our minds.

“You have made your souls pure by obeying the truth through the Holy Spirit. This has given you a true love for the Christians. Let it be a true love from the heart. You have been given a new birth. It was from a seed that cannot die. This new life is from the Word of God which lives forever.” – 1 Peter 1:22-23

Don’t just memorize or study the Bible for the sake of it or worst still, to fill our heads with knowledge.

Let it be a living source that speaks to you, guides you and changes you.  This is how your mind can be healed and transformed.

You can go through a lot of suffering and pain and still maintain positive thoughts when your main focus is on God.

The times when I experienced God’s presence deeply have been the times when I hit rock bottom, when I have nothing left in this world to cling on to other than God Himself.

Even though I’m surrounded by brokenness, His presence has lifted me up over and over again and reminded me that all that matters in this life is His kingdom and not the kingdom of this world.
